The Brea Space Announces Premiere of The Space Between, Documentary-Musical Film Capturing the Real Journey of Young Artists
Red-Carpet Event Set for May 13th at El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood
Brea, CA — March 2026 — The Brea Space, founded by creative directors Cory and Krista Miller, today announced the highly anticipated premiere of The Space Between, a feature-length documentary-musical film that follows dancers through the 2025–2026 training season, capturing the raw, unfiltered journey between studio training and professional reality.
The premiere will take place on May 13th at El Portal Theatre (5269 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, CA 91601), with two screenings available: 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Each showing is limited to 100 tickets, offering an intimate red-carpet experience for audiences to witness the culmination of this yearlong creative endeavor. Refreshments will be available for purchase at the venue.
About the Film
Filmed over the course of a full training season, The Space Between follows dancers from The Brea Space’s Launch Training Program as they navigate the transition between the studio and the demanding realities of a professional career. The film blends intimate documentary storytelling with cinematic musical sequences, capturing authentic moments of mentorship, rehearsal, growth, and personal challenge. Stylized musical chapters reveal what lives beneath the surface.
Rather than presenting dance solely as performance, the film explores the space artists inhabit between aspiration and profession: where discipline meets uncertainty, creativity meets responsibility, and identity is shaped through experience.
Each musical chapter unfolds as dancers step outside the studio and into the wider world, exploring themes including:
- Auditions and rejection
- Resilience and recovery
- Financial pressures and side jobs
- Relationships and social media
- Injury and opportunity
- The return to community and purpose
“We wanted to tell a more honest story about what it means to pursue artistry today,” says director Cory Miller. “The most important moments often happen away from the spotlight—in the work, the relationships, and the growth that shape who artists become. This film lives in that in-between space.”
A Collaborative Creative Vision
Produced through The SpaceTV, the film reflects The Brea Space’s collaborative creative culture, highlighting not only its dancers but also the choreographers, mentors, and industry professionals who contribute to developing emerging talent. The project is the result of a yearlong commitment to capturing authentic artistic growth—both in the studio and beyond.
“This film isn’t just about dance,” says Krista Miller. “It’s about the human process of becoming. The grit, the grace, the people who hold you up along the way. We’re honored to share this story with an audience.”
